Answer ad permission requests
Approve or decline when a brand asks to run your TikTok or Instagram posts as ads, and see what you agreed to.
A brand you work with can ask to run one of your posts as an ad. The brand pays to show it to more people; it stays your post, under your handle. Any brand you work with on viral.app can ask, whether you found them on the marketplace or they invited you.
There are three kinds of request:
Where requests show up
- Ad Permissions in the sidebar appears once a brand has asked you anything, with a badge for the requests waiting on you. Its tabs are Waiting for You and Past Requests. A banner on Waiting for You opens your newest request.
- Home and the brand's page show a box such as "1 Ad Permission Request". Review opens it.
- Chat: your chat with the brand gets a message when they ask, send a reminder, or take a request back. Click it to open the request.
Open a request with Send Code, or Approve for a request covering all your posts. It shows the brand, the post, the brand's note, and a step-by-step guide for the app, with an Open in TikTok or Open in Instagram link on your phone.
Approve a TikTok video
- In TikTok, open the video, tap More options (…), then Ad settings.
- Turn on Ad authorization, and accept the terms if TikTok asks.
- Generate a code that lasts at least as long as the brand asked for (7 days, 30 days, 60 days or 1 year), then tap Copy code.
- Paste it into Code from TikTok in viral.app and click Approve.
viral.app checks the code with TikTok as you paste it, without using it. Code for this video means it unlocks the requested video, and shows the date it stays valid until. If the code is for a different video or TikTok does not accept it, generate a new one from the right video.
Approve an Instagram post
- On Instagram, open the post, tap the three dots in the top right, then Partnership label & ads.
- Turn on Get partnership ad code and tap Copy.
- Paste it into Code from Instagram in viral.app and click Approve.
viral.app checks the code with Meta before you approve. The permission has no end date. Turning the code off later on Instagram stops new ads on the post, not ads that are already running.
Approve a brand for all your Instagram posts
A brand can also ask Meta for partnership ads permission on your whole Instagram account. The request shows as All your posts and covers your posts that tag the brand, with no code per post.
- On Instagram, go to your profile, tap Menu (☰), then Professional dashboard and Partnership ads.
- Tap Ad partners, then Pending requests, and tap Approve next to the brand.
- Back in viral.app, click I've Approved It. viral.app asks Meta, and the request moves to Past Requests. If Meta doesn't show your approval yet, wait a moment and click again.
To say no, decline the request on Instagram. viral.app shows it as Declined once it next checks with Meta. Requests for a Facebook Page are answered in Meta Business Suite under Partnership ads, and don't show in viral.app.
Decline a request
Click Decline in the request, or in its menu on the Ad Permissions page. Add a reason if you like (up to 500 characters) and click Decline Request. The brand sees that you declined, with your reason, and can ask again later.
After you approve
Past Requests lists every request you answered, with its status and the date it is valid until:
Approved: the brand can run the post as an ad.Expires Soon: a TikTok permission in its last 7 days. The brand may ask you for a new code. When it ends, ads running on it stop.ExpiredorDeclined: the permission ended, or you said no.
To take a permission back, use the app: on TikTok in the video's Ad settings; on Instagram, turn off the post's partnership ad code (running ads continue) or remove the brand under Ad partners, then Approved (their running ads pause). viral.app cannot withdraw a permission for you, and changes you make later in TikTok or Instagram may not show on this page.
If you stop working with a brand, their open requests disappear from your list. If a brand takes a request back, it disappears too, and your chat with them says so.
Common questions
Does viral.app keep my code?
A TikTok code: no. viral.app checks it with TikTok and uses it on the brand's ad account the moment you approve, then discards it.
An Instagram code: yes, encrypted, for that brand's ads only. Meta asks for the code again with every ad the brand creates on your post, so viral.app keeps it instead of asking you each time. Nobody can read it in the app, and it is deleted once Meta stops accepting it.
Does an ad change my post?
No. The ad runs your original post, under your handle, and the brand pays for the extra reach.
Do paid views count toward my payouts?
No. View-based campaign payouts count organic views only. When the brand's ad account is connected, viral.app separates the views the ad bought from your organic views.
